Blog Roll

Nice Try, Carol

Today I open the Des Moines Register as I often do and stumble across an editorial so politically incorrect it wasn't even funny.  Click here to see it.  The Des Moines Register attempts to do blogs on there website (http://blogs.dmregister.com).  One of the people that has one is Carol Hunter the editor of the Opinion page.  So for todays blog I deceided to show what I put on another blog!  Here it is.

Carol,

You and your editorial staff should be ashamed! Today’s editorial on the Bush deficit was a load of crap. You not only displayed the paper's (rag's) leftist, communist views like always, this time you actually lied. First of all why is it so crazy if Jeff Lamberti wants to cut back on pork? Are you saying that all Republicans are for pork and Boswell isn't? That really isn't a fair assessment. A Republican for Congress says something that is true (that you agree with) and you can't even support him on that? I hope you nominate Boswell this year so that Lamberti can win.

Secondly this is what you said. "Recall that the last time the Democrats controlled Congress, they produced healthy budget surpluses that put the country on a path toward paying down the national debt." Do you honestly believe this or are you just lying? During your sanctimonious Clinton years the REPUBLICAN LED CONGRESS passes a budget that was a surplus. Of course Clinton receive all the praise for it, while the Republicans in Congress get bashed by low-life editorial staffs like yours. Boo-hoo. Secondly the reason our country is in a deficit right now is two reasons. 1.)There is a lot of pork...on BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE. 2.)WE ARE IN A WAR. Whether or not you support the war (not a question with this paper) you have to still fund it in order to win.

"When Republicans took control of Congress and the White House, they promptly boosted spending while cutting taxes, producing the worst fiscal mess of modern times." This sentence is just down right stupid. First of all you forgot to mention in this trashy piece that the reason the deficit is surprisingly lower than expected is because of the tax cuts that he offered. Secondly, does your paper really not support cutting taxes? That's bizarre. This mess was not created by a "Republican Congress" but rather 2 wars being fought, a natural disaster in the gulf coast, and bipartisan pork being spent.

Lastly, your point about tax cuts is ridiculous because the last president who gave away major tax cuts (dare I say it knowing he was/is the Register's enemy number one) was Ronald Reagan. Do you really want to talk to me about how there was a bad economy in the 1980s? No, there wasn't and that is because there were tax cuts.

This editorial is shameful because it demonstrated how radical our only major newspaper in Des Moines is, and how wrong it also is.

Shame on you and your editorial staff!

Sincerely,

P.C. (Proud Conservative)

After I wrote this another person commented with "13 Register Headlines."  They were really funny!  Click here to see them.  The person who wrote it was "Recovering Democrat."

Fourth of July

Last week was the 230th anniversary of our nation’s birth. We are often reminded that citizenship has changed a lot since 1776. Every week Jay Leno does a segment called "Jaywalking" on the Tonight Show. The idea is to go into the streets of Los Angeles and ask people questions. Every so often he asks questions about current events and United States history. Most of the people answer with absurd responses. It is rather funny to see what some of the people think the answers are. However, recently I thought about it and came to the conclusion that while it is funny, it is also kind of sad. What are people learning today? I think that school administrators focus too much time on making sure math and English are taught correctly, and not enough time on subjects like current events and issues, history, and geography. In a recent survey of 510 young adults, only 67% could find Louisiana on a map and half or fewer could locate New York or Ohio. Has our country lost interest in itself? When immigrants become citizens, they are required to pass a test about the country; perhaps that same test should be required for all high school students expecting to graduate. I believe that the United States government should promote more education and involvement in "American education." After all, if a society doesn’t care about its government, how can the government be expected to care about society?
